Recent breakthroughs in fiber materials and manufacturing processes will soon allow
us to design and produce fabrics that will augment our bodies and the environment
around us.

Climate & Textiles
Meet the community of researchers that are developing new, low-carbon materials and additives; manufacturing processes to structure textiles and increase material efficiency; smart products that embody greater value to the consumer; behavioral changes that reduce emissions by encouraging adoption, utilization and circularity; and systems-level analyses to quantify the impact of these new technologies on GHG emissions.

Textiles is a global industry that touches every person on the planet. It has been estimated to be responsible for 5-10% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Neither the industry nor MIT have implemented a coordinated strategy in textile research and education to address this problem. We can have a greater impact collectively than individually.
